Travel to Iceland this winter to chase the Northern Lights, explore Iceland’s landscapes, relax and discover Icelandic food. You head out after dark in a small group in search of the Northern Lights, take a full-day trip along the Golden Circle and bathe in naturally warm pools by the sea at Hvammsvík. In Reykjavík, you join a local guide on a food tour, where you taste Icelandic specialities and hear the stories behind the food. You can see and do a lot during the trip, but still have time to relax and explore Reykjavík at your own pace.

Day description
On arrival at Keflavík Airport, you take the coach transfer to your hotel in Reykjavík. There is time to check in and relax before the evening’s Northern Lights tour in a small group. Your guide picks you up from the hotel, and together you head out into Iceland’s winter landscape. As you watch the sky, the guide tells you about the Northern Lights. During the tour, you warm up with hot chocolate and something sweet to eat. If the Northern Lights appear, they make a lovely end to the first day of your trip.
Highlights:
After breakfast at the hotel, you set off on a full-day tour of the Golden Circle. In the geothermal area around Geysir, Strokkur shoots a jet of hot water 15 to 20 metres into the air every few minutes.
You continue to Gullfoss waterfall, where the River Hvítá plunges 32 metres in two stages, roughly the height of a ten-storey building. In Þingvellir National Park, you can walk along the Almannagjá ravine. Here, the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are slowly moving apart, and movement in the Earth’s crust has shaped the ravine and the large fissures in the ground.
On the way back to Reykjavík, you stop at Kerið, a crater lake surrounded by steep slopes of reddish-brown volcanic rock. The blue-green water stands out against the colours of the crater.
After a day of geysers, waterfalls and volcanic landscapes, you return to Reykjavík and have the evening to yourself.
Highlights:
After breakfast, you travel to Hvammsvík, a geothermal bathing area by the sea, with warm pools and views across the fjord. Here, you can relax in one of eight naturally heated pools, with temperatures ranging from around 35°C to over 40°C.
You can move between the different pools and, if you like, take a cold dip in the Atlantic right beside them. There is also a steam room. From the pools, you can look out across the Icelandic landscape.
After your bath, you return to Reykjavík and have time to explore the city at your own pace before the evening’s food tour. At 5 pm, you meet a local guide for a food tour around the city centre. You sample traditional Icelandic dishes and other local specialities while the guide tells you about the food and the places you pass.
Highlights:
For those on the three-night trip, it is time to travel home. A transfer picks you up from the hotel in time for your flight.
With an extra night, you have a full day in Reykjavík instead. You can enjoy a relaxed morning in the city, visit a museum, browse the shops and cafés or see more of the city’s sights.
Why not visit one of Reykjavík’s geothermal pools and experience Icelandic bathing culture? Another option is to go whale watching from the harbour or ride an Icelandic horse through the countryside just outside the city.
You can also take the day as it comes, with plenty of time to explore Reykjavík at your own pace.

After a final breakfast at the hotel, it is time to leave Reykjavík and travel home. You are picked up from the hotel in time for your flight and take the coach transfer to the airport.
You return home with memories of Icelandic landscapes, geothermal baths, local flavours and, if conditions were right, the Northern Lights over the dark winter landscape.
