Gullfoss, Geysir & Snowmobiling (pick-up 8.30 AM/10 hrs) (A11)
Our trip leaves Reykjavík for the majestic Gullfoss, by many considered the most beautiful waterfall in Iceland. The waterfall has two stages and you can get close to the mighty water cascading over the ledges and into the ravine below.
The tour takes you from Reykjavik to the majestic Gullfoss, “the Golden Waterfall,” often considered Iceland’s most beautiful. The waterfall has two tiers, and you can get very close to the powerful masses of water plunging into the canyon.
Close to Gullfoss you will find the geothermal Geysir area with its hot springs and Iceland’s most active geyser, Strokkur. With eruptions every five minutes, you’ll have several chances to witness the impressive column of water shooting into the sky. You can walk among bubbling mud pools and steaming underground springs – and feel the Earth’s inner forces beneath your feet.
The next stop on the tour is the beautiful Thingvellir National Park. This is where the Icelandic Alþingi, the world’s oldest parliament, first assembled in the 10th century. Iceland lies on the boundary between the European and American tectonic plates, and in Thingvellir the rift created as the plates drift apart is clearly visible.
We then take the experience a step further, getting even closer to Icelandic nature by riding a snowmobile on Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier – an exciting one-hour adventure across endless white snowfields that will stay with you for a lifetime.
