Lava Tunnel

3 hours Fr. £ 108

On this adventure, we visit the lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir located only 30 minutes from Reykjavík.

On this adventure, we will visit the Raufarhólshellir lava tunnel which is just a 30-minute bus ride from Reykjavík. This beautiful natural phenomenon was created thousands of years ago. The lava tunnel is one of the largest in Iceland, reaching up to 30 meters wide and 10 meters high. The fantastic range of colors on the tunnel walls is caused by the different mineral types of the rock, creating many different rock formations that the guide will tell you about during the tour.

This is a sensory journey. Experience a new world, listen to the cave's sounds, and feel the power of nature like never before. You'll learn new things and step out of your comfort zone. Scenes from the Hollywood movie Noah, featuring Anthony Hopkins, were filmed in this lava cave.

You will walk approximately 350 meters into the lava tunnel, and the cave temperature is around 4 degrees Celsius. However, it may be warmer outside, and water usually leaks from the roof when it rains or snows, so we recommend bringing raincoats. The cave floor can be quite uneven in some places, so we recommend wearing sturdy shoes or boots suitable for uneven surfaces. The lava tube ceiling has caved in near the entrance, creating beautiful columns of light, allowing you to witness the inner workings of a volcanic eruption while walking in the path of lava that flowed thousands of years ago.
