Arrival to iceland & evening in Reykjavik
Upon arrival a shuttle bus will be waiting to take you to Reykjavík where you will be free to spend the first evening exploring at your leisure. If the weather is nice and you feel like a bit of fresh air when you arrive, we would recommend taking a nice stroll or a bike ride by the sea. The Eidissida route is very popular and takes in the President’s official residence, Bessastadir, as well as Mount Keilir and its characteristic peaks. You can then recharge your batteries before your adventure the next day, perhaps by enjoying a hearty meal at one of the city’s many fine restaurants? Ask us if you would like any advice on where to eat!
Super jeep Safari along the Golden Circle
Start the day by having a solid breakfast at your hotel. After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel for your superjeep excursion to the Golden Circle, where you explore some of Iceland’s most fascinating and well-known natural phenomena. First stop is Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Thingvellir (Tingvalla) was also where the World’s first parliament met around year 930, and the place is rich in both history and wonders!
From Thingvellir we follow narrow mountain trails towards the world famous geothermic area of Geysir. With regular outbreaks every 5 minutes you will have several opportunities to experience the hot spring Strokkur's majestic cascading water column being flung into the air.
After a stop for lunch, our journey continues to Gullfoss, ”the golden waterfall”. The powerful gushing water over several lava formed stages is a spectacular sight. From Gullfoss we head towards the Icelandic Highlands, where a snowmobile trip is a possible option (included for those who have chosen the package with snowmobiling).
After a day filled with adventure, the drive then takes you through a village nicknamed the ”village of greenhouses ”, Hveragerdi, where most of Iceland’s vegetables are grown in naturally heated green houses. You also make a short stop by the Kerid volcano on the way, before you return to Reykjavík.
Own activities and the Blue Lagoon
Today you will be free to do whatever suits you best. Spend an entire day in Reykjavík exploring the city or go on an excursion in the local area. Or maybe hire a car and drive out to some of Iceland’s many highlights within comfortable day-trip distance.
Get to know Reykjavík at your own pace. Wander through the streets, soak of the atmosphere and enjoy its many interesting museums, restaurants and designer shops. Digest all your experiences over a cup of coffee in one of Reykjavik’s many cafes, and feel the pulse of Reykjavík!
You can also choose to relax in one of the many outdoor bathing pools around Reykjavík – an option that is very popular with local Icelanders themselves. Or why not enjoy some of our selected activities and excursions over the coming days? Below is a list of the optional activities we recommend for this package.
After your trip you will be able to spend the evening dipping your feet in the fabled Blue Lagoon – an enchanting oasis in the middle of a lava field. Pick-up will be at 17:30 and the journey will take approximately 50 minutes from Reykjavík. The Blue Lagoon is an outdoor hot spring which gets its water directly from geothermal sources as deep as 2,000 metres underground and which maintains a warm and inviting temperature of 36–39°C all year round. There is also an indoor lagoon and a geothermal sauna. If you like, you can also book a massage treatment to really round off the experience and return to your hotel feeling totally rejuvenated both inside and out.
