Arrival in Iceland and bath in the Blue Lagoon
After landing at Keflavík Airport, you will meet our English-speaking guide. The guide accompanies you to the transfer bus that takes you to the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland's most famous hot springs. At the Blue Lagoon you will relax in the mineral-rich water - an oasis in the middle of a lava field on the road between the airport and Reykjavík. In the area there is also an indoor lagoon and several saunas, all heated by the geothermal springs hundreds of meters underground.
After the bath, you will be transported to your hotel in Reykjavík, and the rest of the evening you are free to explore the city on your own. Maybe you stroll along the streets or admire Hallgrímskirkja's architecture before having dinner at one of the many restaurants. We have several favorite restaurants in Reykjavík - feel free to ask us before the trip and we will help you find one that suits you.
Day for own adventures and new year celebrations with gala dinner
On this last day of the year you have the opportunity to explore Reykjavík on your own, or to choose one of our add-ons such as a city tour or maybe a ride in a superjeep. If you choose to spend the day discovering Reykjavík, there is much to discover. The city offers surprisingly good shopping despite its size and should the shopping craving run out, there are plenty of museums and cozy cafes to relax in. If desired, you can also spend the last day of the year with total relaxation at one of Reykjavík's spas, such as Laugar Spa, the Nordic region's largest spa facility.
In the evening, you will be bringing in the new year. At 17.00 you will be picked up at the hotel and at 17.30 you will arrive at the city's coolest building, Harpa. The building is an architectural masterpiece that captures the myth of Iceland with its ever-changing transparent crystal facade. Harpa captures and reflects the city's light, the sea and the sky and creates an irresistible attraction for everyone who passes by. Inside, the New Year's celebration will take place, in the restaurant Kolabrautin, where you and your party are offered a beautiful view of the harbor and first-class food.
Each person eats and drinks:
- Prosecco and canapé
- 3 course gala dinner
- ½ bottle of wine. (non-alcoholic alternative available)
At 20.30 you leave the restaurant to watch an Icelandic New Year's bonfire in Kópavogur just south of Reykjavík. The New Year's bonfire attracts Icelanders who celebrate and sing together in the dark - a sight that just has to be experienced. After the fire you go back to the restaurant to enjoy dessert with coffee or tea.
At 23.45 it is time to prepare for toasting in the new year with prosecco! When the celebrations have ended, the evening ends with a comfortable transfer back to the hotel for the first sleep of the new year.
Explore Reykjavík on your own
The day after the New Year's celebrations you have at your own disposal. If you just want to relax, there is a lot to see in Reykjavík. Walk to the old neighbordoors, discover downtown Reykjavík or let chance guide what you see. Gather all the impressions and warm up with a cup of coffee in one of the city's cafés, visit a thermal bath or a spa.
You can also choose an excursion as an add-on. Explore the lava fields around Reykjavík by quad bike or jeep. Take a ride on Icelandic horses or go on a whale safari. In the evening you can book an aurora borealis hunt, either by boat or on land - perhaps combined with a steam bath earlier in the day? There are many choices for those who want to get active.
Excursion along the Golden Circle
Start the day with a strengthening breakfast at the hotel. The day begins with a guided excursion to the waterfall Gullfoss, which is usually considered Iceland's most beautiful. From a distance, it looks like the river disappears into the earth's interior, but as you get closer you see the fall. The waterfall has two stages, and it is possible to get close to the huge bodies of water that plunge over the cliff into the ravine.
Near Gullfoss is the geothermal Geysir area with its hot springs. Here is Iceland's most active geyser, Strokkur, which erupts about every five minutes - so you will have several chances to experience the 15-20 meter high water cascades. You can also wander among the bubbling mud puddles and the steaming underground springs and feel the earth's inner forces right beneath your feet. If the weather, daylight and amount of snow allows, the last stop on the tour will be the beautiful national park Þingvellir.
Departure in the morning. A transfer will pick you up at the hotel when it's time to go to the airport. We hope you have had a great start to the new year!
