A ride through the Thórsmörk Valley, one of the most beautiful places in all of Iceland. We will begin in the idyllic town of Fljótshlíd, the setting for one of the many Icelandic sagas. From there we will ride into the valley, which is one of the most beautiful places in all of Iceland and only reachable by crossing glacial rivers. We will spend the night surrounded by green forests, volcanic mountains and tremendous glaciers before then continuing along the foot of the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano. We will also visit the impressive Stakkholtsgjá Canyon and stop off at the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall.  This tour is well suited for those who want to ride over shorter distances while still experiencing the many contrasting aspects of Icelandic nature.

Experience the diversity of the Icelandic horse in its own natural habitat, far removed from civilization, and learn how Icelanders travelled in days gone by with a herd of free-running horses. Each rider will have the chance to try between 10 and 15 different horses which will help develop their skills. You can find more detailed information about this trip in the itinerary further down this page.

Participants will travel by bus to Torfastaðir Farm in Fljótshlið, South Iceland, where the tour will begin. Once we have gotten acquainted with the horses we will ride to River Markarfljót and follow the old river bank down to Mount Dímon which is known from Njáls Saga. Stóra-mörk - Thórsmörk

Dag 3

We will set off from Stóra Mörk towards Thórsmörk, continuing along the River Markarfljót and under the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier. The route will then take us over a couple of smaller rivers and then alongside the banks of Krossá, a stream of rushing meltwater from the glaciers. We will then finally arrive at Thórsmörk, a beautiful and untouched valley dedicated to the Norse God Thor. The valley is surrounded by the three glaciers of Eyjafjallajökull, Tindfjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. We will spend the night in a cabin in Básum. In the evening we will be free to enjoy all that this expansive valley has to offer: an unforgettable landscape full of birch forests, ravines, caves and mighty waterfalls.
