Day 2: Flight to Akureyri – Mývatn (approx. 100 km)

Our guide will pick you up in the morning for the transfer to the airport in Reykjavik from where the group will fly to the beautiful capital of north Iceland; Akureyri. Akureyri is the second largest town in Iceland, full of charm and life. We will explore the most interesting sights of the town, like the botanical garden and a church, on a city tour, before we continue to lake Mývatn. On the way we make a stop at the beautiful and powerful Godafoss waterfall. Overnight for 2 nights in Mývatn area. When the weather conditions are favourable the northern lights appear in the sky. Therefore, every evening we will keep our eyes open in our quest for the northern lights.

Day 2

Around Mývatn (approx. 80 km)

This whole day is dedicated to explore the attractions around the Lake Mývatn. Lake Mývatn is one of Iceland’s most interesting regions. This area is famous for its fantastic volcanic formations, geothermal activity and the lake itself, teeming with bird life. We visit the pseudo-craters at Skútustadir and take a walk in the labyrinth of peculiar lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Next on we will visit the fantastic solfataras of Námaskard and continue to the Krafla area where the Viti Crater is located. At last we finish this exciting day with a visit in the Mývatn Nature Baths (entrance included). It will allow everyone to relax in the alkaline bathing lagoon and enjoy the beautiful surroundings! Overnight in Mývatn area.

Day 3

Akureyri - Glaumbær - Hvammstangi (approx. 350 km)

We make our way via Akureyri to the beautiful region of the Skagafjörður, which is famous for horse breeding. Here we visit the museum at Glaumbær (entrance included). The museum is in fact a traditional Icelandic turf farm, one of the few of its kind that has been preserved in Iceland. The focus of the museum is showing the life of rural farmers in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Next on we make a short stop at the beautiful turf church of Vidimýri (just outside of Varmahlíð) and continue our journey along the North coast towards Hvammstangi area for an overnight.

Day 4

Borgarfjörður – Hraunfossar – Reykjavík (approx. 300 km)

Today we follow the road to the south from Hvammstangi area towards Borgarnes. On our way we will pass the village Reykholt and the beautiful waterfalls of Hraunfossar, where the water tumbles out of the lava into a passing river and the nearby Barnafoss Waterfall.
