ATV & Whale Watching
Go on a quad bike adventure through the Icelandic wilderness and enjoy the country’s unspoilt coastline on a whale safari.
Part 1. Quad bike driving in Iceland
You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning and transferred to our ATV basecamp just outside of Reykjavik. Upon arrival experts will give you a safety briefing and instructions on how to drive the quad bikes. The vehicles are automatic and easy to drive, even for beginners. Get dressed in the overalls, helmet and gloves you get given, and take a test drive before starting the real adventure.
You will drive along a concrete road to start with, past beautiful hills and lakes. After a little while you will turn onto a mounting road that takes you up to the top of Ulfardfell Mountain. Feel the adrenalin pumping while you pound up and down the mountain. Once at the peak of the mountain, majestic views of Esja, the Blue Mountains, Reykjavik and its surroundings, the Faxafloi bay, the Reykjanes peninsular and the geothermic area of Hengill can be enjoyed. You may even be able to see the Snaefellsjokull glacier in the horizon if the weather is good. Jump back on your quad bike and enjoy the exhilarating trip down the mountain, a real adrenalin kick!
Part 2: Whale watching
After approximately one hour of driving we return to basecamp for our transfer back to Reykjavik and our whale watching adventure. Before the whale watching we have some time for a stroll around the old port of Reykjavik and a quick lunch (not included) at one of the many cafes or restaurants nearby.
After lunch you board the whale watching boat and if you want to get dressed in the overalls offered to all passengers. Settle down on deck or in the cabin and enjoy crossing the Faxafloi bay. During the crossing your guide will present fascinating facts about the whales, sea birds and puffins that exist along this coast. Keep an eye out for baleen and humpback whales, porpoises and white-beaked dolphins, and keep your camera ready. If against all odds you don’t get to see whales or dolphins you will get a free ticket to another trip.
After approximately 3 hours at sea your return to the port in Reykjavik.
