ATV & the Golden Circle

11 hours Fr. £ 179

Cross Iceland’s fascinating volcanic landscapes in a quad bike before having a classic tour of the Golden Circle with visits to the Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir and Thingvellir.

Part 1: Quad bike driving in Iceland.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Reykjavik and transferred to our ATV basecamp just outside town. After a short instruction session and a safety briefing you get into your protective clothing and the adventure begins! The scenic drive takes you to the dramatic mountain Hafrafjall. After some tough driving you are rewarded with a spectacular view across the moon-like landscape surrounding the mountain.

Part 2: The Golden Circle
In the afternoon our journey continues to the famous national park of Thingvellir, where you will be mesmerized by a landscape of rivers, lakes and mountains. The area is unbelievably beautiful and also the site of the Allthingi, the oldest Icelandic parliament founded in 930 AD. This national park is on UNESCO’s world heritage list and is rich in both history and beautiful scenery. It is also the spot where the large tectonic plates of America and Europe meet and create and incredible landscape. The gorge created by the plates separating is called Almannagja and is a popular place to stroll.

To complete the trip the journey continues to the area of Geysir and its hot springs, which are one of Iceland’s biggest natural attractions. The area is located over a wide geothermic area full of bubbling, multi coloured mud pits, hissing steam, hot and cold springs, warm streams and primitive fauna. The original Geysir, which all other geysers are named after, is located here. Geysir is normally not active, but the neighbouring Strokkur erupts every 10 minutes and its boiling hot cascade of water can reach heights of 20-30 metres.

A couple of minutes drive away we find Gullfoss, “the golden waterfall”. Feel the force of the waterfall as it tumbles a whole 32 metres before it hits the impressive ravine below. On sunny days visitors can see a rainbow through the steam coming from the waterfall, and in the winter the view is even more spectacular when the waterfall freezes!
