Despite our long experience in leading groups, please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon that is very hard to predict, hence sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Hotel Klettur***

Arrival to Iceland

Arrive at Keflavik airport and coach transfer to Reykjavik, the northernmost capital of the world. Stay in Hotel Klettur, a hotel close to city center and Laugarvegur.

Day 1

Highlights

The Golden Circle

We tour the renowned Golden Circle including a visit to the famous Geysir hot spring area, where Strokkur erupts every 5-10 minutes. We also visit the Gullfoss (Golden) waterfall and Thingvellir national park, where the forces of the Great Atlantic Rift are clearly visible. This is where the North American and European tectonic plates drift apart at a rate of 2-6 cm per year. Thingvellir is also the place where the ancient Icelandic parliament was established in 930. It is an area of truly outstanding beauty as well as geological and historical significance. After visiting these world famous sights, we drive through the much greener landscapes of South Iceland to our accommodation in the 4-star Hotel Selfoss. Hotel Selfoss is located in the town of Selfoss of 8.000 inhabitants. Upon arrival you enjoy a welcome drink and a short film introducing the Northern Lights in a proper cinema. Weather permitting, a hunt for the Northern lights will be conducted around Selfoss in the evening.

Volcano and Waterfalls

Driving along the southern coast we encounter highlights such as the waterfalls Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss as well as the glaciers and volcano of Eyjafjallajökull. We will visit the Eyjafjallajökull Visitor Center at the foot of the volcano. A short film (20 min) portrays the spectacular natural event in 2010 when this volcano caused the famous ash cloud, and the hectic times and incredible challenges met by the family farm of Thorvaldseyri at the time. Accommodation in Hotel Selfoss. Afternoon for your disposal where you can enjoy the well equipped hotel Riverside spa, featuring a steam room, sauna, hot tub, rainwater showers, relaxation room, lounge and bar. Weather permitting, a hunt for the Northern light will take place in the vicinity of Selfoss in the evening.

Blue lagoon and Reykjavík City tour

In the morning we drive along the south coast to the Reykjanes peninsula. We pass the Krysuvík hot thermal area before arriving the famous jewel, the Blue Lagoon. Entrance to this spectacular lagoon is included, and you can enjoy soaking in the mineral rich water with its fine silica mud. The Blue lagoon is on the National Geograpic list of 25 wonders of the world, claiming it is a geothermal gift of nature.

From the Blue Lagoon we head to Reykjavík for a city tour introducing the city’s main landmarks like Hallgrímskirkja cathedral, and the Pearl with its fabulous viewing deck. Some of the other highlights include Höfdi House, Reykjavík City Hall and Harpa Concert and Conference centre. Accommodation at Hotel Klettur.
